Project Leadership Institute

The DOE Project Leadership Institute (PLI) congratulates Greg Hays on his appointment as Director of the Advanced Light Source Upgrade (ALS-U) Project at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. During his tenure as PLI Director, Greg provided exceptional leadership, strengthened the Institute's mission of developing DOE project leaders, and made lasting contributions to project management excellence across the DOE complex. We thank Greg for his many contributions to PLI and wish him every success in his new role.

Effective July 1, 2026, John P. Tapia has assumed the role of Director of the DOE Project Leadership Institute. Previously serving as PLI Deputy Director, John brings more than 30 years of experience leading major scientific infrastructure and national security projects across the DOE complex. Under his leadership, PLI will continue its mission of developing the next generation of project leaders to deliver DOE's most complex and mission-critical initiatives.
